In this modern age, if we want to sell ourselves, we have to fight for attention in a desperate bid to not go unnoticed. It's all too easy to dehumanise ourselves in the process of chasing fame and good fortune. We earn the trust of friends, fans and strangers in the online world, only for the numbers to go to our head, and to completely obliterate that trust if it means increasing the numbers. "Any publicity is good publicity." Social media influencers chase their moment in the spotlight like the next big high, only to delve lower and lower into morbidity and debasement. Popularity-addled minds can provide a veneer of total invulnerability even in the face of public scrutiny and outcry – at this point, all reason is lost.
